Ancient Arithmetic: A Sumerian School Text

This tablet from the period of the Third Dynasty of Ur shows a table of reciprocals of the number 60. A school exercise text, it shows how arithmetic may have been taught and learned in the late 3rd millennium BCE. Mathematical tablets recorded in cuneiform from all periods of Mesopotamian history show a range of numeric and more advanced mathematical practices rooted in the sexagesimal (base 60) system.
